Concerned

Hi there,

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in late feb 2017, surgery was in March where one large and one small tumour were removed complete with radical hysterectomy and amentom.

my diagnosis following surgery was stage 1c as the tumour with the cancer in was nicked during removal, chemo was suggested as belts and braces so that started in April.

I have recently hurt my back by lifting something I shouldn’t have ! Being stupid I know.......

This was three weeks ago and the pain in lower back is worrying me, also I’ve started with groin pain which I’ve not had before.

been to Doctors and saw triage nurse who prescribed naproxen which aren’t really doing much.

The pain in my buttocks she thought was muscle strain.

My appointment at the hospital is at the beginning of November, am I worrying needlessly?

  • Hello Karen1961,

It is normal to worry after having gone through the difficult experience of a cancer diagnosis but it was good news that the tumour was only stage 1 and that chemotherapy was offered as a belts and braces measure. All this is indeed very reassuring but I can understand why you are now feeling anxious about this new pain in your lower back. It does sound like it was likely to have been caused by lifting that heavy thing but it's good that it is being looked into and that you will soon be seeing someone at the hospital to examine it in more detail. Don't hesitate to mention your medical history and worries to the hospital and I am sure they will be able to guide you and reassure you by explaining to you what may be causing these pains.

If you do feel very worried though, don't hesitate to go back to your doctor or ask for a second opinion and do mention this groin pain as well as the lower back pain.

Good luck with your hospital appointment. Keep us posted on what they say if you have the time.

    Best wishes,
