I have 6 older brothers. The middle one died of colon cancer and oldest died of lung cancer. I was with them as much as possible. Held my brother Simon's hand and told him it was OK to go as he struggled to take last breaths. Years later I Just got home from hospital and was called back for oldest brother Roger who was gone when I arrived. I regret so much not being there with him. As hard as it was with Simon I am so glad I was there. Both knew I was there and ready to fight on their behalf. Let them know you are there. Be there with them in real time. Listen to their wishes. I had a cold. Would not go away. Was told a few weeks ago I have a spot on my lungs. Today had a ct with dye. Waiting for results. Seems to be serious. I have been a paramedic 20 yrs. I am scared. Thinking the worse. Single and basically alone. Just be there ,chat , laugh and cry.
