Hello
I was diagnosed with non hodgkins last february 2017, I had chemo and 4 interphycal injections. When I had my first scan I think in late May I was advised the cancer was resolved but still had to continue with the rest of my treatment to ensure any tiny cancer cells were killed off. In July last year I had all clear with ct scan :).
Just before I started chemo I was advised after asking I could be seriously affected fertility wise. Speaking with my oncologist I decided to try for IVF. I knew I only had one go as I would need to start treatment straight after also the hospital werent entirely supportive with my decision but I knew in my heart it would be my biggest regret if I didnt do this and so glad I did now. I know this is a very personal decision and not viable for all it really depends on your circumstances and how far the cancer has progressed. Also there is a financial side of things, I started this not knowing how much it would be and if it might be funded. Fortunately I found out after a week it would be funded but FET would not be ( found that out this year)
At the time in february I was also ten weeks away from my wedding day and you can imagine my head was all over the place trying to deal with what ive been told and then thinking do I need to cancel my wedding. I had family and friends flying in arrangements made money spent, I did go ahead and had a wonderful day. I had a very short delay of my treatment had my wedding day a few days hoildayin countryside and back to treatment.
Back to this year I am doing a lot better I booked a 2 week honeymoon abroad before this all happened which we had to postpone last year. I must say the company were amazing and refunded us fully I couldnt believe it. This year I finally got to go on my honeymoon which was amazing.
I did have bit of after affects shingles round my tummy in january eughh and now have some sort of nerve problems with my hands its not carpol tunnel. If anyone had this please can they pass on advice on how to get better. ive had conductor test ultasound and mri and now their ruling out inflammation, finding it hard to do every day things including typing and writing.
Back to IVF I have several embryos which is amazing and plan to do FET very soon. I had ten months with no periods and then 4 months with irregular periods. approaching my mid 30s I really want a baby.
Send my love to you all going through this I know how hard it can be on you and family friends etc. Even with my quick results. I hope that if someone is reading this in a similar position it can give you some hope you can look to a future with good things, it may take some time as It has taken me a year to get to this point where I can look positive to the future. I reccomend a book after treatment 'The cancers survivor's companion' This really helped me. I do sometimes struggle and dont like to talk to people about what happened other than my family.I hope in time this will improve.
I cant write this without thanking my oncolonigist, and all nurses and doctors on nhs. I feel these people are angels and am still in touch with some of them.
My beautiful friend who also went through an experience with hodgkins is doing really well and getting married this month amazing eh
love to you all, I hope the angels are looking after you
