nerve damage a year after chemo

Hi

I had rchop chemo for non hodghkins last year. in January I had shingles on my tummy. In february i noticed a tingling in my fingers in my right hand. it has gradually gone down my hand to my forearm and last few weeks same has happened in my left hand and arm. ive seen doctor, hand specialist and lastly neurologist. it is all three nerves in right hand affected according to tests so carpol tunnel has been ruled out. i have a further blood test to rule out inflammation. Mri has shown there is no serious disease in brain or spine and no compressed nerve. I still have no clue what this is medically but would like to know if anyone experienced something simlar and how have they been treating this.

I can drive but cant really write properly or do day to day things like unscrew a lid or squeeze shampoo out of a container, it is very hard to live with, ive thought about acupucture anyone tried this and did it help?

helpful comments welcome thanks

Alice

  • Hi Alice....

Im so sorry your experiencing this..

My husband is also experiencing the same thing since having chemo in feb-June this year and finds it very painful at times especially at night time when his in bed..he has it in both hands and feet..he says when he stretches his arms out it feels like he gets an electric shock at the end of his fingers...he has also been  thinking about acupuncture..We’ve been naughty and started searching the internet google/YouTube and they say it’s “Peripheral Neuropathy...

i know I’m no doctor but this is the only name we found for it  and his been told it’s nerve damage due to the chemo. The only thing that helps him is the excercises they show..they do ease the pain slightly.

hopefully someone else might come on here with more advice..

    Tina.
