things seam a lot worse, he has massive swelling on his right arm which he is finding the pain too much to cope with.

Anybody got any advise on how to reduce the swelling. He is an ex green howard and will only take the pain killer

when absolutely desparte

  • Hi Missy

I am so sorry for you and your dad.

The best thing I have found is to get in touch with the oncology department at your local hospital -they should have an out of hours number too.  I have had to call a few times for my husband and they will always redirect or give the best advice.  We have been told if in doubt call them no matter what it is and they have been lovely.

    Big hug and good luck

    Xx

    Hi Missy,

I am so sorry to hear about your dad. Has any of his care team looked at his swollen arm? This sounds as if it might be Lymphoedema. I have swelling in both arms following a double mastectomy and know just how painful my arms can be at times.

Pebbles is quite right. You should contact your father's care team and ask for advice. I am fortunate enough to attend a lymphoedema clinic for two weeks out of every twelve. Here a specialist lymphoedema nurse measures the girth of my arms, gives me manual lymphatic drainage and then bandages my arms. Sadly this hasn't reduced the swelling, but it has prevented it from getting any worse.

In between these visits I wear an elastic compression sleeve by day and a thicker one at night. This is a difficult service to get access to. They do carry out home visits where the patient is too ill to attend a clinic.

I do hope that they can reduce the pain for him.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
