Tongue biopsy

Hi , my name is Tasneem and I'm 31 years old. I had a tongue biopsy last week. But the ear still hurts when I eat . Could it be related to the surgery ? Also been worried about the results . Did anyone had the  same experience ?

  • Tasneem

tongue biopsies are a pain....they flipping hurt ... there is no getting away from that

it will go in about two weeks but that two weeks feels like a life time

the most important thing is to keep your mouth clean after eating and using a toothbrush can be the most painful thing

try a small headed toothbrush you are less likely to hit the biopsy and get some diphlam from your doctor ... it’s a less minty and abrasive sterile mouthwash ... it will help

as for eating, well it’s trial and error, but it’s mainly going to be soft stuff, soups and the like

let ud know how you get on and update us with any results

  • Thank you vatch, yes I didn't have any infection or too much pain for the surgery . I had sore throat which is a bit better now . Following the instructions . I goodgled a lot of symptoms and that made me worry a lot . My results come out on Tuesday . Having soups everyday and but it gave me diarrhoea . Thanks so much for your response .:)

  • Hi. I have just came across your post and I was wondering what happened following your results. I also had a tongue biopsy which showed mild epithelial dysplasia and I am awaiting confirmation to have this whole area (approx 4cm) removed via laser surgery. I am so anxious about this, I know this is a 'normal' human reaction when we are kind of in "No man's land" but wanted to know what other people's experiences were following laser surgery as the biopsy was horrific  (worse than what I expected). I am now 6 weeks post biopsy and the pain from the biopsy area is quite intense on some days, I also have a new discomfort towards the back of my throat on the same side but not sure if this is associated pain or all in my head? Has anyone experienced anything like this? I'm not sure if I should visit my GP for them to assess the area as I cannot see it myself.

I am hoping the day of surgery will come through soon as I just want life to resume again but until I know what the plan is my anxiety is causing great alarm. Instinctively I cannot settle until I know this area is removed and that there is no malignancy.

Any advice would be super helpful as no one seems to understand how I'm feeling

  • hi my partner has just got his biopsy results for s white patch on the floor of mouth they said there was some abnormal cells which I take means dysplasia? He was told on a scale of 1 to 10 he was at 2 I’m not sure what that means? Were you told a scale of dysplasia? Hope it all goes well for you

  • Hi worriedpartner80.

I think dysplasia is measured from mild, moderate and severe so would assume your partner's is in the mild region but could be wrong.

I am okay, I had my tongue surgery yesterday and got home late afternoon yesterday. The wound is more extensive than what the consultant initially thought so is approximately 4×4 to the right bilateral side. I think they used a C02 laser for my operation so no sutures, just left open with the wound edges burnt.

I am managing drinks with a straw and the pain is kept at bay with regular analgesia. Just waiting for the results now I know it's probably scary for you both, but I feel so much better knowing the abnormality has been removed now, I didn't like the thought of having something that didn't belong - this caused quite alot of anxiety and distress.

Message me if you have any questions and I wish you both the best of luck
