8 months into my SMZL diagnosis

hello, this is my first post concerning my SMZL, diagnosed in October 2017, following 6 chemo sessions, and monthly nebulisers I have started my 2 years maintainance.

I would be interested to learn how anyone out there might feel under the same circumstances? I am 68 and a regular walker for many years so still keep as fit as I can, but don’t know how I should feel wether it’s my age or the illness that make me tired, ache, and sleep often during the day. Any replies would be appreciated.

  • Hello Paul and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat

Thanks for sharing your story and it sounds like you are doing really well 8 months after your SMZL diagnosis. It's a great idea to carry on walking and keeping fit and walking is a wonderful form of exercise I find it very relaxing too and a great way to discover new places. I hope you will get to talk to others here who have had a similar diagnosis and that you can discuss things like the tiredness you are experiencing. It might be worth mentioning these symptoms to your medical team and see if they have any suggestions to help you feel a bit more rested and less achy. We also have a nurse helpline which you can contact on this free number if you live in the UK 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I did a little search for you to try and find others on this forum who have also been diagnosed with SMZL and I thought I'd share a couple of threads with you which you are welcome to respond to if you wish. You can read for example [@claudia]‍'s story here and she was also looking to connect with others like yourself who have had the same diagnosis. [@marina_n1]‍ also shared her SMZL experience here . If you type SMZL in our search function you will be able to find other relevant threads and select the ones you wish to respond to.

Keep enjoying nice countryside walks

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Paul,

I was diagnosed with SMZL in 2014 at age 42 (I live in Virginia, USA). I pushed myself to be active as well! It definitely helped, so try to keep walking because your tiredness is the product of your body fighting off this invader. If you want to chat feel free to reply!
