Laser resection tongue, pre-cancerous?

I had this done on 1//6/2018, it's approximately 4.5cm long x 1.5-2cm wide on the left side and a little bit underneath. I felt some pain on day 1 and then nothing more than mild discomfort except for when I first wake up. I can't eat solids unless I put them in the blender but I can manage soft vegetables/fruit and soft bread (no crusts). The surgeon said I'd be fine to eat after about a week but today is day 6 and it's going from mild discomfort to medium pain. I've been taking nothing more than 2 panadol 3 x daily. My question right now is, how long is it likely to be until the swelling goes down and I can chew?

I didn't feel the need to contact my surgeon and now he's away for a week, post-op follow-up on 14/6/2018.

  • Welcome to our forum, anneu.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

Not being a doctor I'm afraid I can't answer the questions you ask, but as your post-op follow up isn't until the 14th of June, I thought I might leave you with our cancer nurses telephone number in case speaking with someone medically trained might help. Their lines are open Monday - Friday between 9 a.m - 5 p.m on 0808 800 4040.

    I hope this helps.

If we don't hear from you before next week, good luck with your appointment on the 14th. Once you know more, come back and give us an update, we'll be thinking of you.

    With best wishes,
