Hi Everyone

Hi everyone, my name's Lia & im 17. my mum recently got diagnosed with sarcoma in April & everything since then has been a whirlwind. they discovered the tumour after thinking my mum had a fibroid for a year. When they were about to do a hysterectomy they found it. My mum had to have a colostomy bag otherwise she would of had a maximum of two weeks to live. Finding out about this has been very tough on my family and I, especially as I would class my mum as my best friend as we got even closer after my dad passed in 2013 when I was 12. My mum was supposed to have treatment and we as a family were all feeling very positive about this as she even went to visit The Christie hospital a few times, but then my mum started to get worse and found out she had a water infection. So it turns out the cancer is spreading quite rapidly, and the chance of treatment working is close to nothing. Currently my mum is in a hospice she went there yesterday, and today she told me there's not a lot of chance of her being here for my 18th birthday which is in August. I am truly heartbroken. Was just wondering if there's anyone else going through the similar thing at the moment and if anyone would like a chat, I do find talking to people about their stories and what they're going through or just simply having a chat eally takes my mind of stuff and makes me feel slightly happier. Thank you x

  • Hello Lia012; I am so sorry that life has played you such a duff hand.  This must be so frightening and devastating for you.  Do you have any siblings or other family with whom you can talk?  You must feel fearful with the cancer spreading so rapidly.

I am giving you a link to riprap which is a website for teenagers in your situation i.e. teenagers who have a parent with cancer.  I don't know much about it other than the information I have read on their website but it certainly sounds worth a go as you are one of too many teenagers who are sadly in this situation.

There is another similar service for young people who have a parent with cancer which you might like to look at.

I have not had any feedback from the (admittedly few) people to whom I have passed these links so far but hope they and you will find them of use in this awful time for you.  Please do come back and post if only to let your feelings and worries out.  Annie

  • Hi Annie,

Thank you for the websites I will definitely have a look at those.

I have a lot of family that are supporting me at the moment & close friends that are making me feel better.

    :)
