1st chemo

Hi, i'm Jo, diagnosed with lung cancer about 3 months ago and finally started treatment yesterday.

It didn't go too well as i has a bad reaction to the carboplatin, so they had to stop it. I only had a small amount so i'm a bit concerned that it won't have any effect and it seems as though i've waited so long to get started. Will the small amount i did have do anything? i also had Pemetrexed which was ok.

Has anyone else been in this situation?

  • A warm welcome to Cancer Chat Jo!

I am so sorry to hear that on your first day of treatment you had a bad reaction to Carboplatin. If you don't mind me asking what side effects did you encounter? You might recognize some of these here. I am glad though that Pemetrexed was better tolerated.

I hope you will get to talk to others here who have had this chemotherapy combination and that they will share their own experience and reactions to the drug with you and what they had to do after suffering these side effects. I had a little look on our forum for you and I found that [@cas27]‍  also posted recently and was looking to chat to others who have also had Carboplatin as her husband also suffered a bad reaction to it but he was treated for a different type of cancer so it may have been a different treatment combination. You can read her posts here and here and don't hesitate to respond and share your story in her thread.

Don't hesitate also to give our nurses a call on this free number (from UK landlines) 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. You are very welcome to talk things through with them and ask for example about how this small amount you received may have affected you.

    Best wishes,
