Fibroadenomas

Hi everyone,

I just want to start by saying I’m unsure if this is even the right website to talk about this on, because fortunately I was lucky enough to not be diagnosed with cancer - but I’m looking for advice if anyone has had anything similar. Secondly I want to say how incredible and brave everyone on here is!

Okay, now to the point. I’m 22 and I had my appointment at the breast clinic yesterday because I found a lump in my left breast and it was sore. So after having a consultation and ultrasound I was told I have multiple fibroadenomas in each breast. I’ve had 2 of these lumps in my right breast since I was about 17/18 and it turns out they want to remove those 2 as they are 5cm and 3cm. (Funny how I went about my left breast and it’s my right one that’s causing problems!)

So, to wind up my long post I just wanted to know of anyone’s experiences on fibroadenoma removal? Was it painful etc? Thank you for any info or advice

  • hi

sorry for late reply.  All went well.  Turns out I had a phyllode tumour- thank god it was non malignant.  However, I had to have it  removed.  But doing well and back at the gym.

It’s stressful just going through the whole process. I can but imagine.

    how are you doing?

    best wishes

  • Hi all,

just came across this thread while reading up on fibrodenomas.

ive just been back to get mine checked and it’s double in size, they’ve offered me surgery to remove it.  I’m not sure what to do, it’s grown 2cm X 2cm over the past 3 years. I feel unsure wheather to get it removed or just keep monitoring it. Did anyone have an issues with removal? Thanks x

  • I'd recommend keep monitoring it. I had surgery as a lump was causing my consultant concern due to its growth. The surgery was absolutely fine and scar minimal. However I have had more lumps after this. I decided to defer surgery on another lump and the lump stabilised. I think getting it checked at 3 or 6 months is better than going through unnecessary surgery. I hope this helps. Can understand how anxious you may be but as long as your biopsy is clear I'd hold back and watch and wait. X

  • Hi

I was originally diagnosed with a Fibroadenoma but after having my lump biopsied, they think it may be a fibromatosis. I’m having it removed next Wednesday so they can have a clear idea of what it is. My lump is 3cmx1cm.

had the lump been a Fibroadenoma they would have monitored it on a 3 monthly basis but now they’re not sure it’s coming out.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi

i had my removed cause it was a phyllode tumour- apparently these grows and take over all the breast tissues and later can be difficult to remove.  I have recovered very well from my surgery after about 6 weeks back to the gym lifting weights etc.   Maybe speak to your breast care team and see if they recommend surgery.

    hope it al goes well.

  • Hi Sav!

    I’m a bit of a gym bunny myself. :-)

Hoe you don’t mind me asking but how long was it before you first went back to the gym? Were You restricted in what you could do with regards to upper body exercise? I do enjoy weight training so was wondering what I’d be able to do?

I’m assuming no pulling or pushing movements?or just avoid upper body altogether?

    Kind regards

  • Hi everyone!

I'm having my surgery tomorrow morning, not feeling nervous as of yet but I'm sure I will tomorrow! My lump is 5cm and I had the choice for surgery, I chose it because it can be painful at times! Wondering who went in with local or general anaesthetic? I'm sure I was told I'd be awake but reading all my letters it says general!

I have my own dog walking business and was advised a minimum of 1 days rest but guess who's working the next day :| oops! I'm a bit of a hard nut and didn't want to let my clients down but I'm regretting my decision to work after reading everyone's recovery days! I might employ someone to poo pick for me so I don't have to bend down! Lol.

I shall see you girls on the other side! Bye bye Fibroadenoma you've been nothing but pain in my ***! :D

  • Hi Grace!

  • I had a lumpectomy done in and out with in half a day and had a general. I had three weeks off work due to two lumps one being quite deep plus I do heavy lifting.  Your body will tell you when you had enough! Listen to it! Don’t over do or your need longer off.

Hope all goes well please let us know xx

  • Hope everything goes well x
