Hello everyone

Hi Community, my name is lawrence, I'm 47, recently been diagnosed with having some cancer growths in my liver, but also been informed they started somewhere else.

Only had a CT scan on the  17th May and awaiting results.

From my original symptoms I have a feeling it started in my colon.

Here my journey begins!

  • Hello marcjacob and welcome to the forum.  But sorry about the situation that has brought you here.  There are loads of regular posters here; those who have smashed their cancer to bits, those whose cancer is under control and they are functioning nicely thank you very much and people like me who have cared for (too many) family and friends with cancer.

So gird up your loins (so to speak) and dive in.  You will find all manner of support and will always be welcome whether there is news to tell us or you just want to vent your feelings.  Best wishes.  Annie

  • Hello Lawrence welcome to the group no one wants to be in but has brought so many of us together! I was given the news Wednesday my breast cancer lumps were benign! After having them taken out. It has been an emotional rollercoaster the last 7/8 weeks since finding the lump. They then found another one. The groups on here help so much because it’s people either starting their journey or being in the middle of it or like me at the end. We all support each other as know what we are all feeling at every step of the way! Sending you a big hug

  • Thanks Beachbabe for the big hug, sorry to hear your story but glad it's coming to an end and stays good for you. Beachbabe at the ready

It's the waiting game that's the worst, chasing for answer to results that you just desperately need. For me I've already resigned myself to expect the worst news, but it doesn't make it any easier to swallow. At least if it's not major bad news it will comes as a nice surprise.

My partner is absolutely devastated, so much so i think any further bad news will mean the end of the world for him. When you need the person closest to you to stay strong. Am I expecting too much?

Are their any support groups, MacMillan etc who offer counselling or guidance. Never having to deal with them before I'm not sure what they can offer me.

    Thanks again much appreciated

  • Hi I was diagnosed with bowel cancer 9 months ago within few days scan showed already spread to liver .have had chemo no sign of bowel tumour and liver one has shrunk almost to nothing going to Basingstoke hospital which is specialised hospital for liver surgery on mondaM for scans to see if surgery possible or still needed been very stressful time . waiting is always awful.each scan has shown good result so must have positive attitude .we went to one councillor McMillan but it's not my sort thing support people regularly phone to chat .doc offers to arrange councillor.think there's plenty help if you need it  .good luck with your treatment once you have results and a plan you will feel a bit better and settle into routine

  • There’s plenty of people on here who will give you advise who are going through the same as you. I am sure one of the nurses will leave a message soon as well or you could phone that’s on here x

  • Thanks tigercub, I'd agree, need all the questions answered and need to find out what the MDT want to do. Will keep everyone updated

  • I have been discussed in loads of MDT meeting back n forth between 2 hospitals .I do like questions to be answered but sometimes they can't .with me it was lots of its maybes and let's see how you respond .mos m times I didn't ask too many questions for me I think I too much information is not good for me some people like lots info .I find out things on here . McMillan is good site and bowel cancer UK is good .try keep open mind on every thing .my plan was sort of have chemo to shrink then surgery X2 or together then more chemo .but it gone bit different had 3 months chemo not nice but doable they told me think of it as a friend it's helping .bit looks like I might not need surgery how different is that nurse says I have confused hospital by how well I have responded bowel tumour was 4cm liver was 5cm x4cm so good size .so just keep positive thinking all time it does wonders .and scream if you want

  • Hi and welcome to our forum.

A lot of us find that we spend the initial few weeks comforting our loved ones. I was comfortably numb when I was diagnosed, I just wanted to get on and start my treatment.

I'm not sure why this is but maybe they get hit by anticipatory grief that our minds simply block out to avoid us being overwhelmed? Either way, it does seem counter-intuitive - though it is nice to realise that other people care about us.

    Good luck!

    Dave

  • If you would like to contact MacMillan they have a Freefone number 0808 808 4040 which operates Monday-Friday 8am-9pm.  Those who have made contact with them report that they are very knowledgeable and helpful so do give it a go.

Give your partner time; it will be a shock to him too but hopefully you will be able to talk to each other freely about what is happening and he will come through for you.  He cannot help feeling upset at this time.
