Whirlwind

I was diagnosed from my biopsy on 26th April 2018. I have to say the NHS have been absolutely superb. I'm lucky enough to have very supportive family, friends and work/boss who have all been fantastic. All the tests that have been carried out have confirmed that the breast cancer has not gone to my organs, lymph nodes or bones, but waiting for those results was a really scary time.

I had my first batch of treatment on Monday (HER2 drugs) and Chemo yesterday. They confirmed both will be delivered on the same day in 3 weeks with another 5 cycles to go and then surgery.  Didn't get the best sleep last night as was hot and my veins hurt where I had the Chemo IV. Tummmy ache which woke me up whic I had to breath through, but all in all, ok so far.

One month after diagnosis it will be my 33 birthday and I have to admit that checking for lumps was never really on my radar. I don't have a large chest and never thought I would ever be in this position (silly looking back on it I now know). Going forward, I want to make sure that awareness and checking is on the top of everyone's agenda. I've been lucky so far and I hope that others get the opportunity to fight this disease like I am with the support of my loved ones.

  • Welcome whirlwind and glad you've posted on the forum. Keep going - and it definitely is a whirlwind. I checked regularly but mine was detected on a mammogram - been in family clinic for years with regular mammos (thankfully). Early detection is important and the awareness that size doesnt matter. I am glad you have a great support network as that's what helps us get through. This forum is great as I too had an amazing support network but those who've had cancer really do get it. There were times when I didn't want to bother loved ones and this forum would give that support. It has been my godsend. I hope you continue with minimal side effects and we are all here in this. Take it easy.
