Hello I'm new here

Hi all. This is totally new to me. Not sure if I'm right in introducing myself here?

Let me know please.

2 weeks ago I was diagnosed with B cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia,  Philadelphia positive at the age of 36. I have two boys 3 and 5 who I miss like crazy. They lost their dad 10 months  ago in a motorbike accident at the age of 29... so im now their only parent left . Im on day 15 of chemotherapy.  Taking imatinib for the Philadelphia chromosome

Am scared and in shock at the moment....especially as the Philadelphia is a worse prognosis and I am still waiting on chemo to the spine to see if it has spread to brain or not

Lots of warm love

Jalola

  • Hello Jalola.  If someone told us how cruel and unfair life could be I don't think we would believe it - until it happens.  You have certainly come to the right place to talk about your fears and feelings; many people here will understand.  I don't have much experience with leukaemia (have not had any cancer myself but have helped care for too many family, friends and neighbours who have) and had to look up about the Philadelphia chromosone of which I had never heard.  I understand it stems from a genetic abnormality but don't know if there has been any previous occurences among your family.  I am not going to pretend to understand a great deal of what I was reading but got the general idea.

Is another family member caring for your young sons (you mentioned missing them).  I hope you do have help and support available to you because now is the time when you certainly need it.  Please keep posting here to say how you are coping and what is happening with your treatment.  Annie
