Hello all,

Hi,

I was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer 4 weeks ago. It's been a real roller coaster since then with emotions, not just from me but my family too as they struggle with coming to terms with it.

I'm due to start chemo and radiotherapy on the 23rd of this month, everyday for 6 weeks. Over past few days I've been in pain, it's steadily getting worse. It's like a throbbing pain that comes and builds. It's so painful I double over until it's passed. It's worse when I am standing but get it when sitting too. I take paracetamol for the pain, it doesn't do a lot to ease tbe pain and I'm not allowed to take ibropren.

A little more about me, I'm married to a wonderful man and it's our 30th wedding anniversary this June.  We have 3 grown up handsome boys.

  • Welcome to the forum Mbun although I'm sorry to read you've been diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer.

Have you let your GP or medical team know about the pain you've been experiencing over the last few days? I know you said you can take paracetamol but if it's not helping to reduce the pain maybe you should let them know as they may be able to provide something that will be more effective at providing pain relief.

I know it's only been a month since you were diagnosed so I'm just going to include some information we have about this diagnosis on our website for you to have a look at in case you wanted to find out more about what you are dealing with.

There are a few members on the forum with a similar diagnosis that you may like to connect with as well. You can find out more about Chris and Peter and chat to them on this thread here and I'm going to tag [@jena]‍ and [@Lindloo]‍ in this post and cross my fingers they'll pop by to say hello and share their experiences with you too.

I hope this helps Mbun and I wish you all the best for the start of your treatment next week.

    All the best,
