brachytherapy after Hysterectomy

Hello,

I had a hysterectomy 8th Feb as I had Cancer in my womb. They also took my Fallopian tubes and Ovaries.  She drew a picture which also indicated that my Cervix has gone, just leaving a neck of it to the Vagina. The surgeon told me right after the Op that all the Cancer had now gone and the Op was a success because it was caught early. She said that for the next 2.5 years I would have check ups every 3 months. What will this check involve? Is it just going to be a smear test?

She said that they may consider Brachytherapy as a follow up which would treat the Vagina as a precaution. I have since received an appointment for 8th April and whilst I know what is involved, it is still not clear to me if they will do it on the day. They want to talk about the side effects beforehand. I have read that this can lead to incontinence and when I think that I went through periods each month that produced clots the size of fried eggs, I am worried that I am now potentially swapping one problem for another.

I thought that Brachytherapy would be a one off, as the surgeon called it a kind of "Sterilsation or cleansing process" ( she is French), but now I am wondering if she means that the Brachytherapy is every 3 months!

Has anyone gone through similar situation?

many thanks
