GIST cancer

I am 71 female,  live alone and lost my husband to prostrate cancer in 2014. In July 2015 I was diagnosed with GIST,  a rare cancer affecting the wall of my stomach,  discovered as secondary in my liver. It was inoperable and unresponsive to chemo or radiotherapy. Fortunately for me there is a consultant at the Beatson in Glasgow specialising in GIST and I started on Inimitib which inhibited growth of the tumours. With very few side effects I carried on with normal life for 2 years, visiting  New Zealand on 2 occasions to see my 4 grandchildren ( twins were born same week as I  got diagnosis, !) Then the blow, in July 2017 I became unwell and Ininitib had stopped working. I  started Suninitib in October but my tolerance of the drug was not good and even on a reduced dose we decided to stop. After 4 weeks off all cancer treatment I have started Regorafemib  -  3 weeks on and 1 off with a scan after 2 cycles and so far the side effects have been much less severe,  which is most encouraging. My kiwi family come in June for 2 weeks and I am also very well looked after by my son and daughter close by. I see the consultant at Beatson tomorrow so will be interesting to see what his report is.

  • Hello there fancynancy; Welcome to the forum. The consultant you mention was obviously meant for you!  You have had your ups and downs but am pleased to learn that you are coping all right on Regorafemib.    I have a son in NZ (Queenstown) too.  Do keep us informed of your progress; as well as being interested we learn so much from the information provided in so many of the posts here.  Best wishes. Annie
