Welcome to Cancer Chat barton although I'm sorry to hear your cancer has returned after getting the all clear.
I noticed you said you haven't spoken to anyone with this type of cancer so I just wanted to put you in touch with [@Arth52] and [@alebanna] as they have experience of this diagnosis.
You can find out more about them and their cancer journeys by clicking here and here.
Kind regards,
Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
Hi barton
sorry to hear about your cancer returning I had a stage 2 thymoma invasive back 2015 drop me a line and we can have a chat ask me whatever you like and I will try and help. We are all here to offer support and help. So drop me a few lines. Remember laughter is good that’s how I cope
Hi Barton
just thought I’d drop a line how are you? I did reply a few months back but I have been busy feel free to contact me as I was in the same boat with my thymoma as there is not a lot of us diagnosed with this even specialist are not to sure why we get these tumours. Only the other day I saw a consultant and I was the second person he had met in 18 years who had thymoma cancer so we must be very special. Barton drop line asked me anything you like

Hi
please can I send you an email, I recently had the same operation as you, a tumour which was diagnosed after as a teratoma of thymoma, fortunately benign, how long were you before all pain went, I am experiencing pain from the area in my chest, a lot of tightness, also pain in my back and both shoulders. I was advised by the hospital to only sleep on my back until 6 weeks have passed, it is now 5 tomorrow.
i went to the doctors only because for 5 years have I had sinus and coughing , I had operations and treatment and the only reason I went to the doctors because I developed quite a bad cough again, this resulted in x rats ct scan and biopsy
thanks for reading this
Hi Rosie
Sorry I haven't got back to you earlier today been a bit low lost another job last month thats 4 since having this Thymona Cancer. in 3 years of being in remission. Ironically i worked for a government department this time they say they support people with cancer seriously disagree sacked me without batting an eyelid shame on them. There's a warning to all becarefull who you tell not every company or people care, peaple are so cruel and evil. Right rant over!
Rosie when I had my Thymectomy sterno i was in considerable pain after the painkillers wore off around about week 3, I had to come off these as i was suffering badly with constipation sounds gruesome I know but once that motion past pardon the pun i went back on para's to ease the pain they helped. Around about week 3 i started going for walks not very far to begin with but slowly buit them up which eased the pain. I still wasn't allowed to lift anything heavy except a cup of tea for at least 6 weeks i remember being told of by the nurse week 2 when i had my stitches out for hovering up and doing the ironing. So take it easy your benefit from it in the long term, After 8 weeks i had to have 30 fractions of radiopherapy so that took my mind of the chest pain. Thats a brief discription what i had now I suffered the same pain as you for over 6 weeks the first 2 week my shoulders felt tight and swollen my chest felt like i had a heavy weight on it my back was really sore my muscle were very painfull and as for coughing i had to cuddle a pillow or cushion to ease the pain. I did do my breathing exercise as like moving my arms around like a windmill that was hard at first but got easier.Sleeping is what you want to know. At first once out off hopsital after 5 days at home i couldn't sleep in a bed it was to low so i slept in an arm chair for a week not that i could sleep I could n't lie flat, End of week 2 i managed to go to bed i remember sleeping on my back for about 4 week out of choice no one told me to do this it just felt comfy. I remember waking one morning and i had the best nights sleep as I was lying on my front so sleeping came natural. I started placing a pillow on my side just to help me, that worked. What ever position in bed helps you sleep go with it do n't rush anything you've had a major op and it takes time even now i get the odd twinge and sleeples nights. I think its the worry of what you 've had done take your time it will get easier if your feeling low or want to chat I am here for you, we all are. I know Thymona are really rare theres not a lot of us and doctors aren't to sure why we get these tumours. Hang in there it will get better say another 2 weeks your being sleeping better. Stay in touch and try not to get dispondent.

Hi
i have had trouble getting onto the site but thank you for your reply
you have experienced a lot of treatment so it cant have been easy for you I suppos e I am lucky in that it only involved the operation
i did have breast cancer some 9 years ago and I was working then, work weren’t the best and I had to make up my time when I went for radiotherapy a bit of a joke really, so I do have sympathy for you, you may get lucky and find something you like and they are nice with you
I am getting a lot of help from my husband who was never domesticated but he has learned and done a lot!
i hope the pain goes soon, I thought the hospital and staff were very good but no aftercare for what exercise if any to do so now I am discharged, with the other cancer I was seen quite often
once again thank you
Rosie
glad to hear from you I hope you can sleep better soon. I did get a bit stressed about work but what’s the point there’s other jobs out there life’s to short to worry about stupid people you work with. Some people are imbeciles obviously they have never been touched by cancer otherwise they wouldn’t behave like morons. Already got another job so moving on, see if you can get some physical from hospital to help. Remember if you want a chat I am here it’s nice to talk to someone in the same club. Take care
Hi
i have had to re register not quite sure why
thankyou for replying, I hope you are good?
i looked at your replies to others and definitely think this is the reason I am having all the pain is similar to what you have experienced
i tried to phone the lung nurse specialist I left a message didn’t get a reply, today I phoned again and they said they would come back to me but havent
quite depressing, because I have hip and lower back problems walking is difficult,so although I am trying I am probably not doing enough, I thought after 6 weeks it would get better
at the moment I am taking paracetamol and using heat to ease my back
did you manage to get through radiotherapy okay, I think for breast cancer I just did 10 sessions, and to be honest the whole treatment was a walk in the park, that is why I thought this would be the same
Anyway I thought I would drop you a line, best wishes and good luck in your new joh
Hi Rosiess
Thank you for the reply sorry to hear your in pain still remember you have been through a lot and it will take time I know that’s easy to say but hang in there, we’re all here for you! When I had my big casino moment ( the C word is banned in our house) we call it the big casino reason it’s a gamble if you get it or not. Just like life. When I had my radiotherapy I had a routine and coped well it was after that it hit me. When reality sunk in that yes I had cancer and nothing would be the same I did suffer from severe depression for months even now I slip into bouts of depression but I hide behind a smile and laughter that’s how I cope. Rosie’ just take everyday as it comes don’t rush I have learnt one thing since all this just take it easy let others worry. I start my new job next week so looking forward to get it’s just a job really, family is more important. You take care and stay in touch let me know what the lung nurse says I found that you have to keep them on their toes for a response
just a thought when my shoulders and back ached I used a bag of frozen peas in a tea towel it did help, also I borrowed my wife’s Arnica gell from SBC not sure if it helped but it smelt ok and made my skin soft
