My mums diagnosis. (I’m new and this is my first post)

My darling mum has just been diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer, very aggressive, and we’ve been told it will definitely grow back and it’s not curable.

to say I’m devastated is a understatement, it has come out of the blue as she’s always been so fit and healthy, does anyone have any experience of this ?  I’m so confused does not curable mean terminal and do they grow back quickly?

she had surgery and it was a complete success all removed and all her symptoms have gone

can anyone give me some answers?

  • I'm not a medic, but your Mum's medical team has told you what will happen. If it is expected to come back, it is because the medical team believe there are still cancer cells present. These cells are undetectable, but the medical team are certain they are there, and that they will spread.

Medics usually prefer terms such as NED (no evidence of disease) rather than cancer-free or cured. It is usually impossible to be absolutely certain that all cells have been eradicated. I am in this situation myself. It is unlikely that my cancer will recur. But there are no guarantees, which is why I, and other cancer patients, have regular checkups after treatment has finished.

I wish you and your Mum the very best, Claire Louise. xx Harry
