Tams Terminal

Just wrote this for my profile . . . cut and paste!!!!!!

Lung cancer diagnosed in September 2014: treated with op to remove left upper node and course of chemo (just in case)
Year later brain mets and told I was terminal with average prognosis of 6-9 months; treated with gamma knife surgery which was repeated a year later (October 2016) for a new tumour.
Still here and living reasonably without any medical intervention. Only real issues are related to the cancer treatment which has left me with peripheral neuropathy which will never get better.
I have been banned from Macmillan community forum for making statements about sugar feeding cancer: this was seen as 'negative' and 'unsupportive' of those people who enjoy cake. I'm banned but my comments are still there?
I'm hoping to find more empathy and support for my views on this forum??????

  • Hi SillyGal.

You are more generous of spirit than I am when it comes to alternative practitioners who honestly believe they're doing the right thing. But come to think of it, there are also doctors who blunder along thinking they're doing the right thing when they're simply making things worse.

And you're dead right about some doctors being in it for the money too. I've no objection to someone being well paid for doing a responsible job, but there are also plenty of unfairnesses, too.

You're also right about the cost of treatment, which is why most of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and few other enlightened places have a nationalised health service. I don't begrudge a single pound of tax I pay to keep the system going.

And admit it - the coffee enema joke did cause a little smile, didn't it?

  • Having been damaged by and had harmful effects from conventional medicine, I'd say that I'm aware. One thing though, before any treatment I receive, possible outcomes are explained to me and I'm obliged to sign a consent form, stating that I've understood and accepted possible consequences. Otherwise, any treatment would be deemed assault.

Never heard the same required about alternative proponents.

  • So you are saying adults don't have the intelligence to understand and accept the consequences of alternative remedies just because they didn't have a consent to sign? Well, i would agree that some adults might not have did the research on the treatment they choose but I've never been to a doctor that explained to me the side effects to the meds they prescribed me! They tell me why they are giving it to me and that's it unless I would ask them! When I had an allergic reaction then they tell me LOL so I learned to read the side effects myself from the information included with the RX. Didn't have to sign a consent paper to get the RX. And all the surgeries I've gone through unless I ask all of the risks are not explained to me so even though I sign consent for surgery it's up to me to be responsible enough to read the consent form and to understand it. Not everyone does that, either.

Come to think of it, so far I've never signed a consent in a doctor's office unless it was for surgery! I sign I will pay for it LOL but that's all I remember signing. We do sign a consent form when we go to the hospital.

Now, I am finished LOL Not because I don't want to reply anymore, but because I'm tired LOL

  • Thanks Taff for supporting my statement about epilepsy and sugar - comes from a study from 100 years ago so I'm sad it is not better known by people struggling with seizures.

I am the same Tams terminal as before but for some reason was being prevented from commenting so set up account No2.  Story of my life.  I must admit to getting a bit paranoid now

  • Are you referring to the herpe virus?  I used to get them on my lip especially around the spring and autumn equinox because the level of ultra violet light at these times of the year can trigger outbreaks.
Used all the usual remedies but one day couldn't get out so tried home remedy of very concentrated coffee which I applied regularly for a few hours.  Best cure yet. - and so cheap compared to the cold sore treatments available from chemists.

  • We'll ive only been away for a few hours ... Reading all I missed , I just got one thing to say

CALM DOWN PEEPS ..... CALM DOWN ... (Wish l could write it in a scouse accent)  xx

  • Yes, that's right. Herpes virus sores.  I've never had an attack since so I've had no personal opportunity to try either tea tree (or strong coffee) again.

Anyone know an effective and cheap cure for mouth ulcers (aphthous ulcers), or canker sores as they're called in the US?  Oraldene, which is now available again, is pretty good, but it leaves a dreadful taste in my mouth the next morning, plus I wouldn't want to use it too frequently.

  • Please don't tell me what I'm saying or put words into my mouth.

My initial post was tongue in cheek, though none the less true for that. People have all sorts of opinions. There are whole cultures/countries that believe cutting bits off their children is a good thing. Millions, that's millions of Americans believe they've been abducted by aliens, witness the amount of people who consider 9/11 or the moon landings to be fake or the people who think every disaster is somehow the work of their governments.

Stupidity abounds, idiocy thrives. Not all opinions are of equal merit or are worthy of respect. Even some of mine. I'm as prone to stupidity as the next person.

But it doesn't matter here, all I'm doing is having a conversation. I'm not trying to denigrate anybody.

I must apologise though, for hijacking Tam's thread. That is my stupidity writ large for all to see - the fact that the thread should be about Tam and supporting him rather than what I or anybody else thinks about alternative therapy.

So Tam, I'm sorry mate, I'll try and be a bit more careful in future.

  • Maybe you should note the ? mark on what I write or when the word "seems" is used. Some of the other things you mentioned has nothing to do with alternative therapies. You are right this thread should be about supporting Tam! But when someone gives their opinions on alternative remedies I shall respond with mine LOL which I have so that's the end of it for me in this thread. Whatever works for anyone here, I am happy that it does! Take care.

Only if the next person is Donald Trump :D
