New one to here

Hi I’m Sarahjo and have just joined this web site.  I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2018 and had a lumpectomy, luckily it was small and it’s now gone.  I’m just waiting for radiotherapy to begin.  I’m wondering if anyone can advise me on whether I have to inform my car insurance company of my situation? Thanks in advance.

Hello Sarahjo and welcome.  I have attached the relevant information from MacMillan Cancer Support - if you want to discuss it any further with them you can ring them on Freefone 0808 808 0000.  The gist of this seems to be that if your treatment has not adversely affected your ability to drive safely then you should be okay and your insurance should not increase either.  Again I think there is anumber given for the DVLA if you want to discuss it with them.

So pleased that your cancer was caught early.  There are quite a few ladies who have had breast cancer treatment and are posting on this forum and I am guessing some of them drive and can give you the benefit of their experience.  Annie

    Hi Sarahjo,

A very warm welcome to Cancer Chat.

I don’t know what the DVLA say about this. My surgeon advised me not to drive for 6 weeks after my lumpectomy. I had a double mastectomy the following year and again, the advice was the same.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
