Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Tonsil.

Hi, Anybody else with this cancer? I was diagnosed 1/12/17 and treatment started 18/12/17. Entered a trial, 25x weekday daily radiotherapy plus 5x Chemotherapy. OK until start of week four, but had to start co codomel last night. Appetite has gone and forcing the fortysips down is a real problem, but have found thin porridge with honey to be good. Really find pureed meals inedible. I know it is only going to get worse over next four weeks. Any tips or thoughts. Thanks.

  • I’ve two treatments left , finish on Tuesday. I can’t wait to start feeling a bit better . My mouth is sore and skin but I’m coping x

well done the two of you .... you have both done s well and you are nearl there

by now you would have got yourself accustomed to the daily gring of radiotherapy, the weekly chemo and the days of drug taking after. The constant blood tests and the same people you see on a daily basis

Then thank god ... it ends,no more treatments, no more travelling back and forth and no more needles.

Just be careful though, the next two weeks can be tough

in those two weeks you are suddenly on your own medically and things don’t always go according to plan.

I ended up back in hospital for two days a I was just not eating nd John correct me if im wrong, but I think John did not fair too good after treatment to

Sorry if I have soured the final days of treatment you both have, but I did not want you to feel, that should it happen ..... it’s completely normal

thinking happy thought for you both this week

  • Hi there Paula and lynne

    its over

well done you two, now begins the slow road to recovery

    hows it all going

  • Hi all

for those of you who were diagnosed with tonsil cancer, where in your neck was the enlarged lymph node? I am worried that I have tonsil cancer as I have a small hard smooth round lump in between my ear and jaw. I have seen my GP who said my tonsils & mouth look fine & he is not concerned about the lump but is referring me for an ultrasound to be on the safe side. I know from reading these forums that a lot of people only have a swollen lymph node in neck & tonsils look fine so I am really worried as I can’t see what else it could be!!

  • Hi Mark, really sorry for taking so long to respond after you took so much trouble to write to me. Have been ill and will respond fully shortly.

Hope you and everybody else is getting on ok.

    John

  • Dear Lynne and paula

i hope things have been ok with you both since finishing treatment

i guess as we have not heard from you that you are going through this difficult period of recovery post treatment

if you are, hang in there it does get better

treatment is a quick process, recovery is slow and when I say slow, it will be around 6 months or so before you have the strength and taste to sort of feel a new sense of normal.

mentally don’t put yourself to get better within a couple of months as the process of recovery has many setbacks, your body has been through a lot and got you through it ..... now is the time to look after your body and take it very slowly

wishing both all the best in your recovery

i have left you both a few posts from my blog, just to reassure you that it’s normal to go a bit down before you come start the up hill climb

john I hope all is good with you two, recovery for you has been difficult and must appear to not appear be recovery at all. This does happen and obviously the older we are the longer we take to regenerate. You will get there and hope it’s improving for you

  • hi vatch, i know you said it would get worse , but realy this much worse! i am going through a gagging phase.... oncei gag once i cant stop... not pleasant! nauseated now as well which has not been much of an issue for me ...still it is what it is... hope everyone else is fairing better! paula xxx

The two weeks post treatment in my experience and from those I have spoken to .... are the worst .... I thought it was best to tell you both otherwise you will start thinking there is something wrong with you ..... it happens to us all

it may not look like it but this is recovery, but it’s also time to really look after yourself otherwise like many of us, you end up back in hospital on a drip and a pump that feeds you small doses

as you no longer have the peg how’s your calorie intake going and be aware these are the weeks that you start to lose weight, more so than the previous 6 weeks so be careful.

i hope Lynne is ok too so pass my thoughts on if you chat to her
