Recovering from radical hysterectomy.

I’m recovering from radical hysterectomy and lymph node removal and would like to talk to any others who have been through the same. I do find I’m having sharpe pains and need reassurance. Please, anyone else who has come through it or in the same position, would love to connect. X

  • Hi Joto I’m doing ok, still having ups and downs, more ups. Did they tell you if it will be keyhole surgery, if so recovery is quicker but still you must take it easy for 6 weeks and rest as much as possible. Im not sure how old you are, well they be taking everything and lymph nodes?
  • Hi Angie. I had radical hysterectomy in March last year, A large tumour removed that had cancer in small area enclosed. I just wanted to let you know that it's so important not to do too much and follow the advice given by the health team ..... I went straight into menopause and had a huge benefit having auricular acupuncture which helped so much. Pains are normal as everything is knitting back together however I had no lymp nodes removed. I wish you a speedy recovery . Karen x

  • Hi, Angie - I'm also recovering from a radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer - mine was 1/23. I've had a bit of a rough time with a UTI and other issues, but am starting to feel better - though it seems like it's taking a long time. I had 8 lymph node removal, as well - all clear.  I do have *lots* of sharp pains (like needles) here and there. It seems to be all normal. The top of my left thigh is numb (as expected) from lymph node removal. And my abdomen is just now getting to be less sensitive to touch. I had some rough patches during the first weeks - a UTI, some kidney issues, and still have pressure in the abdomen which hurts when I stand up. I've had an ultrasound and CT scan and everything is normal (even the pelvic fluid which will reabsorb at some point.) But, yes, the sharp pains can be awful - you never know when they're coming.

  • Hi Sandykcc, yes I’ve experienced the same lack of sensation on my thigh I’m sorry to hear you’ve had to go through so much. Did they stent your kidneys? I had both done and also had many infections and one time my doctor thought I had bladder retention and sent me to a and e. I’m currently experiencing pain near my belly button and feeling a little scared, also a strange feeling in the vase of my neck! I am keeping quite at the moment but will ring doctors on Monday. Have you experienced any other small sensations in your Muscles? Have very odd feelings in My inner arm muscles and need to talk about menopause as not sleeping well. Will Keep in touch And I hope your recovery goes From strength to strength. Xx
  • Hi Angie - the didn’t stent my kidneys. My oncologist was going to send me to a kidney specialist, but my blood work finally returned to normal and all the scans were normal. For me right now the worst is the pressure I feel in my lower abdomen when I stand up. I sort of walk like an old lady, kind of bent over! And my back is very sore from carrying around this big belly! Did you call your dr. yesterday? Honestly, I think these aches and pains are part of the recovery, as difficult as they are. I have read about pain in the muscles, but right now don’t have them. I hope your recovery improves and, as you say, “from strength to strength.”
  • I had my kidneys stented Angie2017. I can sympathise with you on the issues that came with it. I did not feel like I was free from illness until the stents came out, 3 months or so after surgery. Hopefully it'll soon be a distant memory for you x
