Recently Diagnosed with Kidney Cancer

Hi there I am new to this forum and I would like to talk to people who have had Kidney Cancer and have had their Kidney and Adrenal Glands removed as I am having this op quite soon as I was recently diagnosed in October.  Any advice on before and after please let me know what happens and how it went after the op.

  • Hey

I'm Jo I'm 44 and was diagnosed with kidney cancer at the end of the summer

I had a radical nephrectomy 8 weeks ago as I had a 10 cm tumour on left kidney , they didn't take adrenaline gland but did take some lymph nodes as consultant said they looked swollen !

Having a scan on Wednesday as lung nodule too !

If I can answer any questions about surgery etc please just ask xx

  • Hi Keira, thank you so much for your response. Oh my gosh I did not realise that it could spread to there as well.  Are you in alot of pain and have been since?  I am so sorry to hear this but I hope you get a good result from the scan, let me know how it goes please.  So many questions!  How long did it take them to find the cancer in the first place as I had been so ill for over a year and although scans revealed there was a mass on that kidney, no one at my hospital did anything about it although they knew it was growing!  It wasnt until they sent me to London for my kidney stone to be zapped that they found this and immediately things started to roll.  How long was your recovery time and how much pain were you in?  They wanted to do op before Christmas but we have a holiday booked so they are doing it as soon as I return but have to have scans up until I go.

    xx

  • I went for a cystoscopy first as I had a significant bleed but this was clear so from that I had a ct scan ! Two weeks later had a call to go back which is when they told me o had a large tumour and they transferred me to another consultant ! I had a radical nephrectomy and came out of hospital 4 days later ! I'm 8 weeks on and still get tired on the afternoon but trying to carry on as much as possible as have a 12 year old daughter ! My scar is like a shark bite but that will fade ! To b honest it's the internal stitches that take longer to heal xx

  • Hi Alan

Thanks very much for the information I will certainly look into it.  Have you yourself had kidney cancer?  How are you doing if so? xx

  • Hi Yes I had my kidney removed in late may last year, stage 1 grade 3   5.5 cm tumour.

Have 3 lung nodules 1 cm 2cm and 11 cm, but they are stable so I have fortunatly not have to have any treatment. The oncologist put me on 3 monthly scans from may last year to march this year and then onto 6 monthly, next scan is march next year.

So far im fortunate not to be on any medication,

have they indictaed to you anything, size of tumour etc, have you had a scan or a pet scan if so how were your results
