Stage 4 Inoperable Lung Cancer

Hi there, It has been suggested that I introduce myself so here goes.

I'm a 53 year old female, I have two wonderful daughters and my first grandchild, who is 7 weeks old. I've been a Foster Carer since 2011, and on Level 5 of a BA (Hons) degree.

I have basicaly raised my girls alone and worked hard since what seems like forever.

However, unfortunately, I was diagnosed with this Lung Cancer a couple of months ago, I'd visited the Doctors on several occasions stating that I had been experiencing breathing problems and a very strange pain. I was told I was overweight! I lost 23lb went back and said the pain was worse and my breathing was worse? Was told I had Vit D deficiency and put on a 7 week course of Vitamins. I went back again, was told I was in pain and stressed as I'd lost my Mum? then my girls father died on Fathers day this year, I was told that had made me ill??? Anyway, turns out after being rushed into hospital in September that it wasn't Vit D deficiency, nor my being overweight (14stone 3 and 5'8 tall I may add) but infact it was Stage 4 Lung Cancer.

I'm still in shock, sad, angry and trying to fight this and stay as positive as I can for my girls.

I've just found this site and needed a massive vent, which I've just had, thank you if you've read this far! I just wondered that I might be able to find out information on here that I wouldn't otherwise?

I'm on day 8 of my second round of Chemo and it's tough, but I've got to try.

Okay, well I may run out of space soon so I'll leave it there for now, but any tips, words of advice, someone telling me that I will live longer than they are saying????? would be great to hear from you. Thank you xx

  • Awful news. Stage 4 Lung Cancer is really nasty. I'm not a medic but know there are long term survivors of this condition out there. There is hope and it is not false hope. Xx Harry

  • Thank you Harry x that is positive to hear, thankyou xx

  • Hi Loll

My husband also has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and like you it was suggested it could be other illnesses (including vitamin D deficiency) before it was confirmed as cancer.

Stay strong and positive - you have 2 daughters and now a grandchild to focus on. I wish you all the best with your treatment.

  • My husband just been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer 2 weeks ago.We are still coming to terms. He is 75 and for last 2 years had problems with legs,Cellulitis,Phlebitis and a DVT.All the time he was saying how ill he felt we now know it was the cancer.Unfortunately his health is not strong enough to take chemo.Tuesday our oncologist will be giving us final results of lab tests.Try to stay positive,i understand how you are feeling, really do understand.Dont know about you but didnt realise how much support there is until now.You will get throughit.Enjoy your girls and your grandchild,We are expecting 15th grandchild in march as well as 5th great grandchild also in march.2 weeks ago i needed to "vent",i did on a closed group on facebook.I pray the chemo will help you.Stay strong.I wish you well.xxxx
