A caretaker

My husband of 43 yrs has stage 4 terminal stomach cancer. Has chosen palliative chemo. It is working.

I am exhausted. It's only been 4 months since second opinion final diagnosis.

I am sad.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Peaceplease.

I'm glad you've found us and hope that you can get some good support here on the forum.

I remembered that [@Karen21]‍and [@Gemini23]‍were talking about supporting loved ones with a stage 4 stomach cancer diagnosis recently, so I hope they won't mind me tagging them. They may well stop by to chat, but in the meantime, it's also a good idea to search the forum - perhaps for 'stomach cancer' - to have a look at other conversations happening.

You could also try posting in our Caring for someone with cancer section, too.

It's no wonder you're exhausted. Looking after someone can be a huge emotional and physical challenge. It’s important to take time for yourself and get support. I'm including a link to a page on our site that has more info on Caring for the carer - I do hope it's of help.

If you have any questions about your husband, we also have a team of cancer nurses on-hand to talk to. You can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Mon - Fri, 9am - 5pm).

    Wishing you all the best,

  • My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer and my mum is with him, they have been together for 60 years, 54 married. My brother and I go and visit as and when we can and they have friends in their area that have been very supportive day to day. He has had 2 lots of chemo but won't know for w few more weeks if it is working. My mum says he is OK but it is very hard to tell as she may be being brave for us. He was diagnosed about 3 months ago

Like Gemini23 I am happy for you to private message me
