    Hi Juliebob,

I see that this is your first post on the forum, so a very warm welcome to Cancer Chat.

I am so sorry to hear about your dad’s cancer and how upset you are. You do not say what type of cancer he has, how long he has had it, what stage it is at or what treatment he has had. Also is he at home or in hospital?

This will be very hard for you to cope with, whilst trying to keep on top of your studies. Sadly, there have been a few young people of your age on this site in the last week. It is hard enough to deal with this as an adult never mind a teenager. Do you have family or friends who you can confide in? Many teenagers find it difficult to open up to friends, who don’t really appreciate how hard this is, because they’ve not had any experience of a situation like this. There is a site particularly for teenagers, where you would be able to talk to others of your age who are going through the same. It is called riprap, but you are welcome to come back here too.

Have you thought about seeing a counsellor? This isn’t for everyone, but some people find this very helpful. There are many charities which provide this service. Try not to worry about the future, as it will only spoil the present. The best thing you can do is to spend as much time as you can with your dad, chatting to him and being there for him, letting him know how much you love him.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Big virtual hugs,

    Jolamine xx
