  • Hi Kay51, welcome to Cancer Chat. I noticed you'd not received a reply yet so I thought I'd stop by to say hello.

I'm really sorry to hear about your gran's lung cancer diagnosis; this must be a very difficult time for you and your family.

There are other people on this forum who will be able to empathise entirely with what you're going through at the moment so, if you'd like to, please do feel free to join in with other conversations here. You can visit sections such as Caring for someone with cancer, or click on 'Search forum' in the blue bar near the top of the page.

Please do continue to post here if you'd like to, too. We're here to listen.

    Best wishes,

    Helen

  • Hi Kay,

I'm so sorry to hear about your gran. I can empathise entirely with you, as I lost my Mum to cancer a few years ago. We were incredibly close and I too struggled with it. I felt helpless, hurt, panicked, frightened and nothing prepared me for the inevitable.

The only advise I can give you is to talk.....don't bottle it up. Whether that be on here to other people who understand, or to a counsellor, or to another support network.

And talk to your gran. Stay close, say all the things you want to say, do all the things you'd like to do, create memories, share moments, and try to laugh.

Keep yourself informed too, of how things progress and what happens/what to expect, as one of the biggest fears is the unknown. Its important that you have someone to help you through this too. xx

  • Hi,

Sorry to hear about your gran.

I'm a 57-year-old man and had lung cancer. It is amazing what they can do these days.

I lost my right lung but I can still do most of the daily tasks and I still work full days.

Please go and talk to the right people because I never did and it was hard to get through the therapy.

There is a lot of info that can help you and your gran.

    Stay strong

  • Thanks for your reply i know there are some amazing things being done nowadays for cancer patients unfortunately my gran cant really be helped. She is getting all the support possible its just harder for me because i live further away from her
