Hello

This is the first cancer related group I have joined, so hello. I have just finished a gruelling chemoradiotherapy treatment, and am waiting for my next mri. I have a very muddled head at the moment. I have almost dealt with this by denial.

    Hi Debra,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat.

I am sorry to hear that you are finding chemo tough going, but hope that your next MRI shows that it has all been worth it. Have you got a date for your MRI as yet?

There seems to be two types of person when faced with a cancer diagnosis – those who are in denial and those who want to know everything. Cancer treatments can leave you with a muddled head, so this is not unusual. Please keep in touch and let us know how your MRI goes. We are always here for you, whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello Debra, This is also the first cancer related group that i have joined too and like you I am almost at the end of chemoradiotherapy treatment. Though not been in denial I have had bad days and now treatment is almost complete I'm finding the future more daunting. I'm wishing you all the best for results of your mri scan and for a positive future. Hopefully we can both get our muddled heads through this. Kind regards Bev
  • Hello Debra and Bev

I finished a six week chemo radiotherapy course  three weeks ago - for anal (I prefer to call it bottom!) cancer which was diagnosed in August.

The daily treatment was tiring however I have actually found I too have struggled more since finishing - there was structure to going to the hospital every day and reassurance of seeing the radiographers and nurses every day.

I've felt  quite isolated as it's now a case of waiting for a follow up apt with my doctor which  won't be for another few weeks followed by an MRI and CT scan to see how the  treatment has worked.

I contacted my specialist nurse last week and she had me into see her which was really reassuring she also suggested the Maggies Centre which I went to and it's great as they run workshops for loads of things and they also have people available to speak to at this scary time.

Its hard but suppose we all just have to be patient and try and make some sense if the journeys we are going through. If you've got a Maggies near you I would definitely recommend.

Wishing you both all the very best with your treatments and outcomes.

    Kindest regard Sandra

    Hi Bev,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat.

If you read my post to Sandra, you will see that you are not alone in feeling daunted by the possibility of not needing more treatment. Most of us feel like this, regardless of the type of treatment incurred.

I wish you all the very best when you have your MRI.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on. We are always here for you whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    HI Sandra,

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling now that you have finished your course of chemo. Isn’t  it strange that you are worrying more now? I have not had radiotherapy or chemo, but took hormone therapy for 7 years. I have had 3 bouts of breast cancer, since I was first diagnosed 7 years ago. The second bout was 6 years ago and I changed from Tamoxifen to Letrozole then. I have been looking forward to finishing my course since I started taking it. But it was when I finished taking it that I began to worry. It felt as if my safety blanket had been pulled from under me.

I am glad to hear that you found your specialist nurse helpful. I have attended Maggie’s and found it very helpful. I also attend the Haven. Both work in the same way, offering advice, counselling, walking parties, seated yoga, a selection of alternative therapies, a welcome cuppa and chats with others who are also going through cancer or MS. They also run workshops on all sorts of topics -  how to cope with your diagnosis, how to massage and bandage Lymphoedema (a side-effect of a double mastectomy) and other such topics.

I do hope that your MRI results prove to be good news.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

Thank you so much for your reply and wise words and advice.

Isnt it strange the way our minds work.  The Maggies have been gr at and in Glasgow we also have the Calman Centre which does a lot of therapies such as massage reflexology etc so I'm going to make use of them too.

i will let you know the outcome and wish you well in your continued recovery thanks again for getting in touch kind regards Sandra

    Hi Sandra,

I don't know whereabouts you live in Glasgow, but the Haven is in Blantyre and it does all these therapies too. There can be quite a long wait to get treatments at times, so you might find ithat 1 can fit you in quicker than the other.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
