Can't think of anything else

Hi i am 32 with two young girls, I found a lump and visited my doctor who put me forward for an urgent breast clinic appointment. My appointment is in 2 days at wishaw and not sure if I should take someone with me?

  • I would. A lot of information might come at you in a very short space of time, two people listening stand a better chance of taking it in.

  • Thankyou, I took my husband with me and unfortunately I have breast cancer. I find out the stage , type and action plan tomorrow .

  • I'm sorry to hear that, I guess your reaction is probably somewhere between numbness and panic right now.

It's moving along pretty quickly so hopefully by this time tomorrow you'll know where you are going and when. It's not easy but having words and a plan to describe, at least to yourself, how this is going to be dealt with, will help you to start and get your brain around the the next step.

    Hi Volostit,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I am so sorry that you have been hit with a cancer diagnosis. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer. The first was 7 years ago and the second the following year.

You ask if you should take someone with you to your appointment.  I would always advise you to do this for every appointment, if possible. Also, you will find it helpful to draw up a list of questions for your consultant between each appointment. This way you will not forget to ask the pertinent questions when you are there. My hubby always accompanies me to each consultation. I give him a duplicate copy of my questions and he writes the answers down as we go along. If you go on your own, you will find that you only recall a very small percentage of the conversation by the time you leave the hospital gates.

I hope that all goes well tomorrow and that things are not as bleak as you seem to be expecting. Please let us know how you get on. There is always someone here for you whenever you want to talk.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
