Feeling anxious

    Hi Vixen,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I am afraid that I have had 2 bouts of primary breast cancer, so I have no experience of brachytherapy. There are however many women here who have undergone this treatment. I would suggest that you use the search engine on the top left hand side of the blue band at the top of this page. Put 'Brachytherapy' in the box and it will bring up all previous posts on the topic. I hope that you find this useful.

Please keep in touch. There is always someone here whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,
    Jolamine xx

  • Hi there,

Hope you are well.  Im new to this chat, saw your post about brachytherapy and wonder how you got on?  I am about to undergo 25 radiotherapy and 3 brachytherapy sessions and am concerned about side effects.  Any info / advice appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hi Catswhiskers,

Not everyone experiences side-effects to these treatments and, if they do, the side-effects will vary from person to person.

I hope that both go well for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi catswhiskers

I have to go for brachytherapy in Tuesday staying over night and another dose on Wednesday, have you had this done yet? Do you have any advice. I'm so nervous and scared about having this done!

  • Hi Nic, thanks for your reply. No, I start radiotherapy first and this was delayed due to corona virus, but it should start in about 10 days time, I will have brachytherPy after that.  Have you had radiotherPy or just going straight to brachy?  I think the thought of brachy is enough to put  you off because of where it is placed!!!!!!! But honestly I have read lots about it and the majority of women say it is actually much easier and wished they hadnt worried so much.  I have read much about how caring and thoughtful the nurses are as they understand that we women are perhaps embarrassed, but think of it as another or even perhaps a final stage of your treatment.   Please try not to worry.  Good luck x

  • Hi,

yes I've just finished wk 4 of radiotherapy and chemo. Have one more chemo tomorrow, 4 brachy and 5 radiotherapys left to go. It's the brachy ones that are scaring me.

your probably right, it's the anxiety of not knowing what to expect that's making me panic. Went for my pre assessment on Thursday and everyone was lovely.

Will try and focus on the fact there is only two wks left to go hopefully.

good luck with your treatment as well x

  • Hi nic219, thanks for that.  Really hope your chemo goes well tomorrow.   In your previous post you said you could not  have a hysterectomy because your tumour was too big?  i thought if it was contained in the womb it could be removed. mine was large and had grown onto cervix and down into vagina so I was told hysterectomy was first step followed by chemo radio brachy.  I was stage2 grade 3.  I have been unable to continue with chemo because it damaged my kidneys so I will prob go ahead with the radiotherapy.  Hope its all fine for you tomorrow x

  • Hi

yes my oncologist said they didn't want to operate on it because of the size 5.3cm * 3.5cm, even though it hadn't spread and that chemo, radio and brachy had pretty much the same success rate.
At least I think that's what she said, I was all over the place when she was talking so had to go over the notes my fiancé took on the day to remember
Just dropped my bag at the brachy ward and now having my last chemo. They're letting me stay tonight so I don't have to travel tomorrow morning which I think will help.

To say I'm up to high doe and emotional today would be an understatement, but trying to relax and take one thing at a time.

  • Aw Nic, I know its such an anxious time, but just remember every treatment takes you one step nearer to finishing.  Hope it goes well today and keep in touch to let me know how you are doing.  Take care x
