Lump in neck

Hi all,

i am new to this so find my way around.  I haven't been diagnosed with Cancer but I have got a lump that's concerning in my neck and find it difficult to swallow.  It feels like I have something stuck in my throats constantly.  Today I went to my Ultra Sound appointment thinking I had a swollen thyroid which was pressing on my windpipe but I was wrong.  At my appointment the sonographoer said my thyroid was fine but there was something under it and she didn't know what it was.  She is sending me for a CT Scan.  I've got to admit it's got me worried now.

Has as anyone out there been through the same and can ease my fears a bit or help me prepare for what I may hear?

  • Hi there, sorry to pry. Was the lump on your neck solid or fluid filled? Going through investigations at the moment. Hope you're well.

  • Hey there

I went to the docs back in march with a lump at the base of my neck and after investigations it turned out that it was metastatic thyroid cancer (3cm lump) which wasn't discovered until the ultrasound and fine needle.

Had total thyroid removal in May along with 29 lymph nodes removed (16 came back cancerous). Radioactive Iodine was given in August and awaiting follow up appointment in March.

The lump in question that started it all off was soild.

    Hi Jcalderwood,

Welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis, subsequent surgery and treatment. It is always a tough and scary road when you are going through all of this.

Having gone through all of this, I am sure that you won't relax until you find that this has worked for you. I sincerely hope that your review in March will show that all this hardship will have been worthwhile.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi there,

Welcome to our forum. I am a breast cancer patient, but noticed that nobody has replied to your post and, know how anxious you will be to get a reply. Debs' post was sent 2 years ago and, she may well not be visiting the forum since then. I have replied to you to you in order to bring your question to the fore again.

I'm afraid that I don't know much about neck lumps, but you may well find more if you do a search. If you go up to the blue banner at the top of this page and click on the search facility, then insert lump in neck or something similar and click. This should bring up previous posts on the subject, which you may find helpful.

Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks so much for getting back to me. Hope everything is going well ️
