Mrs - nervous about starting chemo

Just got over emergency operation to remove cancerous tumour from my colon. It as spread to my liver / lung / back bone. I start Chemo next Friday after having a pick line fitted. I am so scared. Anybody else had something similar. Would like to talk to someone else who is going through this.

  • Hi Pjg,

Sorry to hear about what you are going through at the moment, I too, was terrified of starting chemotherapy back in January. Im not going to lie it was tough but the care & support from the nurses  really do put you at ease & there are lots of medications that they can give you to help the side effects.

Also, the picc line is a god send! It makes it so much easier & quicker for them to administer the drugs but also to take blood each time.

Do you have a support network at home? Family who can help out?

I really hope all goes well for you & in tough times its amazing where we get our strength from!

    Take care, Stacy.x

  • Hello,

I was scared the first day of chemo!  I took a notebook to make notes, jot down questions, people I needed to call, etc.. to pass the time and keep my mind off it. I also had a picc line, which was very helpful. Chemo was tolerable for me.. I didn't feel great, but it was tolerable.  I met some amazing people and the staff was a huge help, very understanding. You can do this, try to stay positive.  Sleep when you need to but get some exercise, if you can.

I wish you the best.  Check back in and let us know how things are going.
