Newbie, husband has cancer

hi all

my husband was diagnosed with locally advanced prostate cancer in February.  I have joined to gain knowledge, to meet others in the same boat and to learn ways of coping when life throws us a little more than we can cope with.

Hugs to all.

  • Hi

Welcome to the forum, sorry you have to be here, a few questions first, about your husband, what was his PSA and what was his Gleason score ? Has he had any treatment yet if so so what.

Now a bit about me I was diagnosed in July last year, I have advanced prostate cancer Iam a  G 9/10 my PSA was 893 the cancer in my case is metastistic in my shoulder and ribs.

Because of my condition  was offered the choice of two trials, one was called Pace the other which I choose was called Stampede it involved hormone therapy ( Prostap ) every three months chemotherapy ( docetaxel ) 6 sessions and radiotherapy 20 sessions. I had a fair few side effects but every one is different how these affect you. Some of the worst ones were from the hormone therapy shortness of breath and consent fatigue and being tired, there are others but most are common with the medication.

The one thing I have always kept in mind is being positive, it's easy to get down the odd time it's only natural, and the mood swings from the hormone therapy plus hot sweats keep you on your toes.

I am 65 and just retired, my wife 13 years my junior, got and still gets very worried about everything I do, bless, her married 27 years and still very attached, we have a saying  Me and You Just Us Two, and that's the way we will always be,

So whatever happens just be positive it is a very long journey your husband is on so the very best to both of you, any further information you require just ask.
