Hello

Hi. I'm 57 and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April following routine mammogram. I have had lumpectomies in both breast and lymphnode biopsies. I had all clear for the lymphnode. I'm waiting to get a plan for radiotherapy.

any advice about radiotherapy?

  • Hi Kim

Sorry to hear your news but glad you posted!  I am 56 and had radio nearly 3years ago for BC.  Everyone is different but I can honestly say i did not feel any different during or after my radio.  Make sure you apply whatever cream they give you twice daily as this will really help skin from cracking etc.  If you do feel tired then rest....be extra kind to yourself.  May I ask did you have it in both breasts?

    Regards

  • Hi Kim

i had radiotherapy in November last year after lumpectomy and my lymph nodes removed after they found the cancer had spread to 1/4 lymph nodes following sentinel node biopsy - 3 ops in total before radiotherapy. I know we are all different but it was a little tiring for me by the end of 15 sessions and I needed a nap in the afternoon but nothing major. Skin care is really important so keep up with the moisturising as it does make a difference. Strangely I struggled more in the eight  weeks after it finished than during the sessions so don't be surprised if you dont immediately feel ready to take the world on when the sessions finish. I went to a hospital in Cambridge for mine and they were great and made it as smooth as they could which helped.

Hope yours goes well - the end is in sight and Flushes is right - remember to be kind to yourself, you deserve it.
