Mastectomy question

Hello i have just joined,

Hi Girlies, i am 50 years, and i have just had a mastectomy on Thursday with a node removal to check on the all clear or ? and went for the reconstruction at the same time a sylicone and collagen as i had enough skin to be able to make a breast shape.

the op went well and i left the hospital the next day, my drains were removed after 7 days on the Thursday as that is what my surgion suggested this was done by my breast nurse, wow that was so good to have that free and away from me, as it makes you feel so trapped, the breast nurse asked me to come back for a check up on the Tuesday, she could see that i have got fluid build up and called the doctor as he was around in the ward and took a look and said we will leave it a few more days my breast have been growing each day and they are now saying to come back on Friday to get them drained as the Friday clinic will be able to this procedure as its got the specialist there as i have had silicone they need to be carful can you please tell me is this normal to leave you with all this fluid around a masectomy and reconstruction?

  • Hi

I had a mastectomy in March and another 3 weeks ago.

I had the drains removed after a week but you can sometimes get a build up of fluid .It causes swelling and discomfort and will sometimes need draining so it is quite normal.Did you lose your nipple and areola too?

Why did you have the collagen? I wasnt offered that!

Are you happy with the result?
