New to the forum

Hello everyone - I've just joined the forum, in search of hope and inspiration in supporting my sister, who was diagnosed with a stage 4 peritoneal cancer a year ago, and who respomded so well to treatment and surgery, that we all thought she had beaten it, only to find it had come back earlier this year, and now has spread to her bowels, and lungs, and although the consultant and her team have not given up, and want her to do a more intensive chemo course, she herself is saying she has had enough, and just wants it all to end, and we just want her to fight....she has two young daughters, and a loving husband and family, and to hear her talk like this is as devastating as the cancer she is fighting! How do we give her the will she needs to keep going? She is really down, saying the odds with this chemo course are only one in four, but surely any odds is worth the fight, if it will give her more time with her family? Without it, it sounds like she would only have a couple of weeks. We are all in bits, and feel so helpless

  • Hi, I'm sorry that your sister and family are having to go through this. My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer spread to his spine, sacrum & lymph nodes this time last year so totally understand what you are going through. He responded well too with surgery, radiotherapy & chemotherapy which has given him more time, but like your sister he doesn't want to have anymore chemotherapy. I nearly lost him twice from side effects of the chemo. What was your sister's chemo journey like? For us it was horrendous & logically I understand my husband's reasoning but my heart just won't agree. What I'm trying to say is that whatever final decision your sister makes its not giving up but more about acceptance of her situation. she doesn't want to go anymore than you don't want her too! Just keep being there for her, supporting her, loving her & each other, continue to make memories. Cancer is a cruel disease which causes such devastation & it's an emotional rollercoaster for everyone. I send you hope, strength & positivity for the next chapter of this journey x
