Hello

Hi i am deborah, 54 year old health care professional and new to the forum. I was diagnosed and treated 6 years ago for breast cancer and yesterday treated for melanoma, feeling it's unfair to have had two primary's now.....what next?.....will the next one get me? Early days I know but all the horrid feelings I had with diagnosis 6 years ago are repeating all over again and I am once again scared even tho the signs so far are positive for me....I don't believe them yet.

And I have just read that history of breast cancer can increase your risk of melanoma despite my specialist telling me it's not in the least bit related! Hard to know what to believe!

    Hi Deborah,

Welcome to Cancer Chat, although I’m sure that you would rather be elsewhere. I too am a health care professional, was diagnosed 7 years ago and have had two bouts of primary breast cancer in the same breast. I have also had a couple of scares, which turned out to be benign. I would agree that each incident is as bad, if not worse, than the first.

My Cancer is a rare form which only 1% of people get and, like you, I have been given misinformation about it from my care team.

Try not to persecute yourself by thinking “will the next one get me?” This will just drive you insane. Try to concentrate on things other than Cancer and to keep yourself busy with other pursuits.

I hope that you still have many years to live yet and I sincerely hope that they are healthy ones.

You will find this forum a very useful resource as you pass along your cancer journey. Do keep us in the loop and remember that there is always someone here to talk to if you feel like it.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
