A rare case

Hi, I had my thymus gland removed 7 weeks ago and have been told that I have thymus cancer and will need to have radiation treatment in August. Is this normal to wait that long before starting radiation treatment. I have also been told that chemo will be given if,/, when it grows back and ct scans will be needed every 6 months. I would like to chat to anyone who has this illness as I am in need of reasurance. Thanks

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Rollie although I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the reason you find yourself here.

I have had a look around the forum and found another member [@Alchemist136]‍ who signed up a few months ago revealing they have this type of cancer and now I've tagged them in this post I'm sure they'll stop by when they can to share their experiences with you. I have found a discussion where another member [@jjoollzz]‍ is chatting to one of cancer nurses about thymus cancer here if you would like to have a read as well.

Speaking of our cancer nurses, they are just a phone call away if you would like to chat with them about this. Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope this helps and that your radiation treatment goes well next month.

    All the best,

  • Thank you so much for the contacts and your information. A chat to a nurse would be most helpful as I am living in Portugal and the language can be a problem.
  • You're very welcome Rollie :)

I didn't realise you were based in Portugal so I apologise for the telephone number I gave you as that is for our UK members as our forum is UK based. If you would like to chat to our UK nurses I would advise posting in the ask the nurses section of the forum but would recommend you chatting with your GP to find out what information and support is available for english speaking cancer patients in Portugal as well.

    Kind regards,
