Tired

I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node removal through the wide incision as I already have shoulder and arm problems. 2 .5 weeks since op. Initially doing well, but now breast feels sore, really uncomfortable and lumpy in a couple of places. Under arm and armpit feels as if I have something tight rubbing.  Not slept well because of above.  The area is not hot and is not  really sore to touch. Is this normal. Surgeons pleased with progress saw him 2days ago but it was not this bad then. Seeing oncologist next weeks to discuss radiotherapy etc.

    Hi Noushie,

I am sorry to hear about your discomfort. I have had a lumpectomy and a double mastectomy. Both were a year apart. I found that as the tissue healed my breast and right arm were very tender and often disrupted my sleep. There are street bumps on my street and I found these particularly uncomfortable to drive over. It is now 6½ years since I had the last surgery and it can still get tender at times.

If it is not hot or red, I presume that it is not infected and if your surgeon was happy with it two days ago, you would expect all to be ok. However, if it is still sore or getting sorer, you could see your GP or even ask the oncologist when you see him next week.

I hope that the pain settles soon and that radiotherapy goes well.

    Keep in touch.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
