Hi my name is Sandra, I'm 54 and was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer on 24th January after a routine mammogram. Initially it was thought to be small, as appeared to be only 12mm and that only a lumpectomy was required and radiotherapy. It is very common however for lobular cancer to be larger than it appears and after an mri scan it was 60mm so now a mastectomy was needed. Lymph glands looked clear. I had surgery on March 6th and cancer cells were found in my sentinel node. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy now required. My biggest fear was losing my shoulder length curly spiral hair. I was told about the cold cap and decided to try it. Had my first chemo on 1st May and cold cap was bearable. I had no sickness or nausea in the days that followed so felt really fortunate. On day 15 my hair started shedding. Day 17 my white blood count was too low for me to get chemo yesterday. Day 19 and 20 I lost about 70% of my hair and it's still shedding. I have a bald patch at my crown, which according to paxman cold caps this is down to bad fitting. I'm devastated and have had a bad few days. I'm not sure whether to continue with the cold cap, whether to shave my head? Has anyone else experienced the cold cap? With what results.
