throat cancer

Hi...I was diagnosed with epiglottic carcinoma in January (throat cancer to you and me.)..I had a bi-lateral neck dissection and tumour removal in February and am about to start radiotherapy on the 24th...I've had my mask made and had a scan whilst wearing it so am used to how it feels but I'm still so scared.....has anybody had radiotherapy to the neck.?I've been warned that I will be in severe pain and won't be able to swallow very well...anybody got any advice or helpful comments plz.?xx

    Hi I had a neck cancer and went through 30 doses of radiation treatment they put me on ensure 2cal drinks please add lots of milk to them as they are thick and not to great to get down. I had a stomach feeding tube fitted for if I could not swallow theses drinks as your throat could because really sore. I did use it for one week at the end of my treatment. I hope this helps a little

    Thanks for your reply Superbean8....are you OK now.?How long does the sore throat last...they told me they will admit me to hospital if my weight drops too low....definitely want to avoid that...?I have to have 30 doses too,was supposed to have chemo at the same time but I've refused that...

    Hi susan

    welcome to the forum and you are amongst many that have been down this route and tell there own storey.

    i wrote a blog all the way through mine it helped my understand what I was going to and it kept all my friends and relatives informed ... it saved my wife having to say the same thing 100 times over.
