Reconstruction advice

Hello, I'm Michel

I was diagnosed with breast cancer Feb 2016 and since then have had a mastectomy (one breast) and reconstruction.  I'm at my last stage for nipple reconstruction but unsure which is the best option.  I have a choice of either using part of my real nipple to trasnplant onto my implanted breast or having the skin on my implant breast pulled into a nipple shape and tattooed. I know in the grand scheme of things this is a small consideration but somehow it is one of the most important decsions of the whole process. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat MichelM,

I'm sorry to hear about your breast cancer diagnosis last year but it's great that treatment was available and you are nearing the end of your cancer journey. Have your medical team explained the pros and cons of these types of nipple reconstruction? If you're unsure do make sure you have another discussion with them to get all the information you need to figure out what would be best for you.

You can also chat to our cancer nurses about this as well if you like. Their number is 0808 800 4040, (which is free to call from a UK landline) and they are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. Hopefully others who have been through the same process will reply soon but do feel free to join in on previous discussions that may be on the forum about this already. To have a look for them just use the 'search forum' option above.

Do come back and let us know what you decide to do MichelM and I wish you all the best with the reconstruction.

    Kind Regards,
