My Dad ......

5 weeks ago after my dad being unwell for a couple of weeks we recieved the devastating news that he has cancer in his lung and liver . The cancer is worse in the liver and is really aggressive . Originally he was given weeks to live and with Chemo he could have months ..... my heart is broken and I am utterly devastated . What makes it worse is mum and dad live 360 miles away . Dad agreed to give Chemo a go and over the past 4 weeks he has had small doses . This week he is going onto a stronger chemo with 3 different elements . The chemo has made him unwell and he has stated that he will stop it if he continues to feel unwell . How can life be so cruel ......my dad is a good man who does not deserve this . As a family we are all heartbroken but trying to stay strong .....

  • Welcome to the forum Shona although I'm sorry to hear your dad has been diagnosed with cancer in his lung and liver.

Getting through chemo can be tough, especially if it makes you unwell, but it's good your dad is giving it a go. Do you know if he has been able to speak to his medical team about the effect the chemo is having on him? If not, do suggest it to him as they may be able to provide something to help as well as advice on how to manage it. Many of our members who have been through chemo know what your father is going through at the moment and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you.

I know you mentioned you're quite far away from your dad. Distance can make life changing experiences like this very tough as you're finding out. Would it be possible for you to spend some time with your mum and dad whilst he is having the chemo? If not do stay in touch with your parents as much as you can as I'm sure hearing your voice will give them strength and help them through this difficult time.

I hope the stronger chemo helps and doesn't make your dad more unwell. Do keep us updated when you can Shona, we'll be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way.

    Best wishes to you all,
