Terminal bile duct cancer

Hi,

looking for anyone who has experience or knowledge about this cancer, my husband who is 45 has just found out recently after becoming jaundice that he had bile duct cancer and advanced and spread to liver, we met oncologist last week and said it was probably stage 3 but he said it can't be removed because of where cancer is! So surgery isn't an option, he then said that it os terminal and prognosis with chemo might give  him 6-12 months!!! I can't get my head round it all!! He is fit and healthy, was never ill apart from jaundice!! Any help would be great i.e. Palliative chemo

thanks amy

  • Hi bob C how are you doing?

My dad got diagnosed with this cancer last week. He is 66yrs.. no symptoms only discomfort mistaken for indigestion! No jaundice, no loss of appetite.. he was taken to A&E with distended stomach.. Ascites has built up and a ct scan revealed a 12cm tumour on his liver abs has metastasized to his abdominal cavity they said. They haven’t offered chemo yet as they are waiting to see if it has spread to the bowl.. he was fit and healthy 2 weeks ago on holiday around France! It literally has come out of nowhere..

  • Your dad seems to be where I was 22 months ago.  Approx 12cm tumor in liver, other smaller ones in liver.  Spots in lungs and from all indications lymph nodes involved.  Very minor pain below right rib,  was the only indication of a problem.  Have had a decent 22 months.  On chemo #26.  I take the chemo well.  Started new chemos Cisplatin and ? On number 25.  Do have the belly pain on occasion.  Just FYI I’m 69 and live in California.

  • Thanks for reply, they are indicating to us that if the bowl has been affected they won’t offer chemo just mangement of symptoms. His Ascites has built up again and they said they will put in a permanent drain to keep him comfortable.. he is in great form and you would never know to look at him that he was ill.. the doctors are being so vague with a prognosis. They just said months and defynot a year.. am in complete shock. He has had no symptoms, attends doctor twice a year for checkups etc and nothing ever showed.. is it possible he could get a year.. we are in Ireland

  • I think he could make it, but what do I know.  I think I have 1 year plus and have cancer all over.  I will be praying for him.
