Hi all

2 years ago i was diagnosed with breast and bone cancer...its controllable but not curable. When i was retired on ill health from a job i loved  i thought what can o do to keep my brain active and took up crafting  i can now  do bookfolds ..make cards for any occasion and this is because of a group i joined to do with crafts. I live in Preston Lancashire. I have a 24 yr old son and have a partner

Im not saying i dont have downtimes cos i do...but i always try and be positive..like Linda Nolan said its controllable but im living with it im not dying from it or something like that.

  • Hello Helen,

Welcome to the Cancer Chat forum!

I know that lots of our regulars here have hobbies that help to keep them active and sometimes give them an escape. Be it [@jules54]‍ in her garden or [@woodworm]‍ and his wood turning or [@davek]‍ and his watersports - we know how important it is to have something you enjoy in your life! :D

It's inevitable that you have downtimes - everyone does - but having a positive mental attitude will stand you in good stead.

Thank you for sharing with us Helen! Please feel free to post here whenever you feel the urge.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn

  • Hi Helen,

I am the Woodworm that Jenn mentioned. When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer over six years ago keeping busy certainly helped me. I love anything to do with woodwork and am just learning how to do wood engraving using small Dremel type drill and variouse cutters.

Thanks for sharing your story with us and I wish you all the best, Brian.

  • Hi Helen

I am the escapee to the garden (wild birds are my hobby out there too). Though not having cancer myself  the forum helped me cope during my hubby's cancer journey (and after his loss) and as Moderator Jenn says it is helpful having something to focus your mind  along  with the usual day to day things.

Enjoy your crafting and I am sure others are enjoying the results too.  Also welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your story. Jules54
