Just to say hello

just wanted to say hello and say my name is Gary and I'm a veteran Injured in Afghanistan. I suffered major neuro damage and leg damage. Over the years things have deteriorated to a point where now I am due to have my right leg amputated above knee, need major heart surgery and to top it off shrapnel on the brain has resulted in last week being diagnosed with a grade 3 astrocytoma (malignant). Due to its location its inoperable and only cause of treatment is chemo and radiotherapy....I am still yet to tell my family and wife and I guess I just don't know what to do :( any advice is greatly revceived. I have a nurse specialist and am under all the normal military charities :)

  • Hello Gary, I noticed you'd not received a reply to your post yet so I wanted to pop on to give you a warm welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear about your recent astrocytoma diagnosis. You've come to the right place to talk to others who are going through similar experiences, and hopefully you'll be able to find some friendly forum members to talk to.

In the meantime, I wanted to pass on our cancer nurses' helpline number, in case you have any questions or wanted to chat. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Mon - Fri, 9am - 5pm).

Have you got a date for treatment as yet? If you'd like to let us know how you're getting on, we're here to listen :)

    Best wishes,

    Helen

  • I'm hoping to start treatment next week, as what yet I don't know until I see the oncologist:)

  • Hello again Gary, just a little note to see if you've seen your oncologist yet? Has treatment started up? Hope you're doing OK if so!

    Best wishes,

    Helen
