Hi

My name is Linda, and I'm looking for a bit of advice but not really sure where to look. Following chemo and RT for breast cancer I have had to stop taking HRT and am paying the price with at least 2 hot sweats/flushes an hour day and night. My doctor gave me gabapentin and I have now been on it for two months. It is having absolutely no effect what so ever. I am finding the flushes very debilitating and distressing, along with joint and muscle pain. I am seeing my doctor again on Wednesday and was just wondering if anyone could suggest something else that would help. I finished the main chemo last August and just have 4 more Zometa treatments to go, over the next two years.

  • Hi Linda,

I'm sorry to hear the gabapentin the doctor prescribed isn't helping with your hot flushes but I'm glad you've managed to get an appointment to see them this Wednesday to let them know. I would recommend giving our cancer nurses a call about this as they may be able to tell you about other options that may be available to you. Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and they are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

And if you use the 'search forum' option above you can chat to other members on their discussions about this as well.

I hope this helps and the doctor is able to provide something that will be more effective in preventing those hot flushes Linda.

    All the best,
