introduction.

hello I am Fudge

I have been diagnosed with an aggressive grade three invasive breast cancer. I am lucky to have found it. I had a clear mammogram a year ago but recently found a little lump. This was benign but mammogram showed a suspicious area in other breast. No lump can be felt but biopsy shows this cancer I am having that and a few lymph glands removed on 21st. what worries me apart from the cancer is that I was told that the treatment would be decided after the opbut that even if I needed chemo because I am 74 they might not give it. I dont want chemo but if I need it I want it even if I have to pay myself. Is age a good reason for not giving it?

  • Hello Fudge, and a very warm welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear about your breast cancer diagnosis; it sounds like you did absolutely the right thing in getting yourself checked out promptly.

There is some general information on our website about why chemotherapy might not be suitable, which very much comes down to the individual's level of health. Your medical team should discuss the benefits and risks of any treatment with you before embarking on a treatment plan.

If you'd like to talk to one of our cancer nurses about this, you can reach them on our freephone number: 0808 800 4040, or you can email them in confidence through the contact form on our patient information website.

Our friendly forum members may also have experiences they can share with you on this; hopefully someone will comment soon. In the meantime, do feel free to search the forum for any other similar discussions which may be suitable to join.

I hope all goes well with the op, we'll be thinking of you on the 21st.

    Best wishes,

    Helen
