" It shouldn't have happened!"

Following nearly two intensive years of lymphoma treatment I developed a mucinous breast cancer in 2005 and had a " successful" lumpectomy. It returned in 2012 when I had a mastectomy, again pronounced  " successful".I've just been diagnosed with Stage 4 bone mets ( and poss lung/ chest wall.) Yet all the way through I was told that mucinous breast cancer was the " best" one to get and that the survival rates were high.

Each time I've been ( somewhat bashfully) told " this shouldn't have happened."  So why HAS it happened? Is there any clinical info that might help me understand ? Or anyone who's followed the same route and heard the same things? And it's " low grade" albeit possibly in two sites. Should that give me hope? I'm feeling very let down and duped currently! Thankyou xxx

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat WendB although I'm sorry to hear what's happened and can completely understand why you're feeling let down.

I see you mentioned that you were told several times that 'this shouldn't have happened' but have your medical team tried to explain why it may have happened? If not, do try and sit down with them again and see if they can answer these questions that are currently playing on your mind. You can also chat to our cancer nurses about this as well if you like. Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and they are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope you get to meet others that have been in this situation soon but in the meantime do have a look around the forum using the 'search forum' option above to find other discussions relating to this as well.

    Kind Regards,
